Tuition fees for international students

International students, who are not citizens of an EU member state or another contracting member state of the European Economic Area (EEA), meaning citizens of Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein, need to pay international tuition fees as of the winter semester 2017/18. This applies to international students seeking for a bachelor's degree as well as for students who begin their consecutive master's programme.

Tuition fees are € 1500.00 per semester. Furthermore, all students who are enrolled at the Karlsruhe University of Education must pay an additional charge every semester.  

International students with a German university entrance qualification are not charged with the international tuition fees.

Tuition fees for a second degree

All students who start a second or additional undergraduate degree (Bachelor degree) as of winter semester 2017/18 or start a second or additional master degree, after a completed degree in Baden-Württemberg, are charged fees of 650,00 Euro per Semester.

Besides the general tuition fee, an additional fee in the amount of € 148.70 is levied every semester (€ 70 administration fee + € 77.70 fee for student services + € 1.00 for student's union).

If your are already immatriculated you can complete your degree without being charged general tuition fees.

Tuition fees for postgraduate master degrees

For the postgraduate master programs a general fee of € 1.600 per semester is charged.

Moreover, an additional student fee of € 148.70 has to be paid per semester by any student. Those additional fees consist of an administration fee (€ 70), a fee for the student union (€ 77.70) and a fee for the student body (€ 1).

Students who request a semester on leave of absence are not charged with the general tuition fee as long as they submit the Request for a Leave of Absence (Antrag auf Beurlaubung) before the beginning of the lecture period.

Important change as of winter semester 2017/18

Students, who begin their degree of a postgraduate master program as of winter semester 2017/18, are charged the tuition fees for their entire degree all at once.
